Posters can be a very effective means of conveying research results,
teaching methods, extension programs, and other types of information to a diverse
audience.
Advantages of poster presentations over oral presentations include
information availability for a longer periods of time, increased time for interaction
with authors, reduced conflicts when concurrent sessions are scheduled, time for an
increased number of presentations, and great flexibility in meeting organization.
Poster presentations are generally more time consuming to prepare
than oral presentations, but can often be constructed using material originally
developed for oral presentations. Using computer technology, poster production
need not be overly expensive, and should be viewed as an investment with future
uses (field days, other conferences, static displays, short course, etc.). Though
the material for a poster may be more difficult to transport, if the poster is
prepared in small components it can still be easily transported.
To aid you in your poster presentation, please follow the suggestions
offered in the Guidelines for Effective Poster Presentations document.
