Perhaps you may have jumped the gun or missunderstood me. There is overwhelming
evidence that a leanly cut root decays less and is more likely to generate new roots.
Woody roots by virtue of their bark are unable to absorb water. When a woody root is
cut however we loose the absorbing roots but in doing so expose conducting xylem. This
xylem is able to absorb water directly in exactly the same way as cut flowers.
Was it that you were saying that most people will not take this level of care or is
there something wrong with my assumptions.
As always looking forward to your response.
