I don't have my reference books with me and the memory is less than crystal clear. But here goes. I don't recall ever hearing of phytotoxity associated with chlorinated hydrocarbons ie. Lindane. Although I haven't heard of problems with Diazinon this may be due to the fact that where I live, only professionals can buy and apply it. Malathion, in the same organo-phosphate family, is less toxic and is sold through garden stores for homeowner use. There are plant species with sensitivty to it. I've heard of more than one person ignoring label warnings and burning the leaves off the tree.
I would go to a seller of diazinon and look at the label. Any known hazards including undesired phytotoxic responses will be stated on the label or accompanying literature. Even if it doesn't indicate phytotoxicity to live oaks, it's still possible if there is not a specific recommendation which says it's safe to use on live oaks.
Good luck.
