This may seem an obvious suggestion, but if the leaves are chlorotic the alkalinity may be a problem. If the iron is getting bound up, your application of ironite may have been futile.
Having said that, I must admit it seems an unlikely answer, though. In austin, most soil is alkaline (we are sitting on a big chunk of limestone) and live oaks seem to thrive here. Still, if the tree was born and raised in a lower pH. . .
One other possibility may be oak wilt. The symptoms are similar when manifested in leaves, but the yellowing and necrosis usually occurs along the veins, not in between them.
