russ you dont say how it is that you first arrived at the need to bid the job at your res? the fact that you have what appeqrs to be differing bids leads me to believe that you need to check the credentials of the tree care companies that you are dealing with. one point to consider... do you want to encourage growth? another...if the canopy appears to you to be healthy, other than removing dead wood or crossing branches or any other structural defects i wouldn't do anythig. ask to see certification proof if insurance, workmans comp and make sure that they don't climb your trees with linemans spikes. less is more.
