Placing trees in planters is akin to raising birds in pens which are too small to allow flight. In fact, the whole idea of "ornamental plants" is flawed from both an ethical and ecological standpoint. We need to respect the evolutionary heritage of all organisms. I agree with you George, that trees are an important part of our environment. What we need to do however, is not modify the trees but instead modify our impact on the trees environment. The neolithic "revolution" was a mistake!
