"The Fundamentals of General Tree Work" by G.F. Beranek was just published last month.
You may remember Jerry's series on rigging in Arbor Age a while back. He is also the spry fellow taking down the redwood tree on AA's cover about 10 years ago in an exciting action photo sequence called "At 150 feet, still 7 feet in diameter". Jerry also engineered the Stihl poster of 5 guys suspended in the crown of a coastal redwood with chainsaws.
Well, now he is back, with a vengeance.

This 500 page book gives an in depth, exhaustive description of the breadth of tree work. The 40 chapters go into the subtleties that only a master with over 25 years of experience can know. But Jerry also knows how to teach. This book will become the textbook used for advanced tree care instruction, as well as the book for the introductory classes.

Many of the pictures are of climbers working in large trees (over 10 feet in diameter). I had the opportunity to accompany Jerry on an expedition to the top of a 336 foot coast redwood with Tree Climbers International. The story is on the web at: http://www.chatlink.com/~oxman/tci.html

The book is available for $49.95 from Beranek Publications, P.O. Box251, Fort Bragg, CA 95437
