Considering: species ? may vary in thier susceptability to freezing. Better safe than sorry. I do understand however becarefull not to cut the corm (trunk) to low. Temperatures here in the Florida Panhandle- Panama city, rarely drops to below freezing for mor than a few hours.
corm (ktrm) noun
A short, thick, solid, food-storing underground stem, sometimes bearing papery scale leaves, as in the crocus or gladiolus.
[New Latin cormus, from Greek kormos, a trimmed tree trunk.]

I read on the WWW couple days ago that if you leave your Banana plants in the ground to over-winter that one should put a chicken-wire cage around plant ( 1' dia ) and mulch down the corm to a height of 4 foot. I'm in Houston. What about 1 foot dia and 2 foot high? Anyone?
