Some years ago I met some Chileans who were fighting for the protection of their monkey puzzle trees in the wild setting of southern Chile. They bought with them the nuts from the tree and we all had a pleasant nibble on the food. They seem to be about the size of cashew nuts, maybe a bit bigger. Tasted quite bland, but I believe they are a food staple for indigenous peoples.
