ISA Continues Its Support of the TREE Fund

CHAMPAIGN, IL (December 16,2005)The International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) presented the Tree Research and Education Endowment (TREE) Fund with a check for $25,000 on December 14, 2005. The presentation was part of this year's annual contribution by the organization to help support the work of the TREE Fund.

"The TREE Fund appreciates the continued support of ISA which is demonstrated by this generous unrestricted gift," says Janet Bornancin, TREE Fund Executive Director. The mission of the TREE Fund is to fund research projects and programs advancing knowledge in the field of arboriculture and urban forestry to benefit people, trees and the environment. ISA's financial contribution to the TREE Fund assists in them in achieving that mission.

The annual donation by ISA is one way to follow through on ISA's mission and strategic plan which include strengthening research to promote the professional practice of arboriculture and the benefits of trees. "This donation is being provided to demonstrate our on-going commitment to research and researchers and their efforts to improve the practice of arboriculture and the quality of life for people world-wide," stated Jim Skiera, ISA Executive Director.

Since the merger of the ISA Research Trust and the National Arborist Foundation, ISA's support of the TREE Fund has been strong. ISA not only donates a lump sum at the end of each year, the organization also encourages and provides support through other avenues. ISA invites its members to donate to the TREE Fund. Since 2003, ISA members have openly gifted over $15,500 via their membership renewals. The US Chapters of the ISA also contribute through events and fund-raising which provided over $780,000 in donations between 2003 and 2005. Skiera emphasized that "The members of ISA have always been strong supporters of the need for more and better research."

The ISA Annual Conference and Trade show has also proven to be a benevolent venue to assist in raising funds for the TREE Fund. Each year ISA provides a booth space for the TREE Fund as well as donating $10,000 generated from booth space sales. The conference also provides the opportunity for the Tour des Trees, the Gala Auction, and the Golf Tournament to be held during an existing gathering of ISA members and TREE Fund supporters. These annual events help to raise thousands of dollars for the benefit of research.
